Four Female Voices (doubling on harmonicas), Alto Flute, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet (offstage)
Program Notes:
Slant Of Light is a setting of texts by Emily Dickinson and the traditional Ave Maria. Using the phrase “cathedral tunes” as a jumping off point, the piece proceeds to develop with influences of Ligeti, but harking more directly back to Ockeghem. The piece climaxes with a chorus of diatonically-tuned harmonicas, framing an offstage trumpet solo, before fading off into the distance.
